ARD Commission

Strengthening the Association through effective adult volunteer management, development, training and support.

What this commission does

The Adult Resources Development (ARD) Commissioner is responsible for developing and managing the Association’s adult volunteer resources, ensuring that the right people are recruited, supported, trained and equipped to deliver quality Scouting. The Commissioner works with the ARD Committee, District Commissioners and other stakeholders to establish effective human resource practices while promoting the welfare and continuous development of adult volunteers.

Its work covers four key areas:

  • Recruitment & Volunteer Management. Establishes effective methods for the recruitment, selection, appointment and appraisal of adult volunteers, while maintaining an up-to-date directory of adult leaders across the Association.
  • Roles, Responsibilities & Welfare. Defines the functions and responsibilities of adult leaders and establishes appropriate measures to support their welfare, motivation and engagement within the Scout Movement.
  • Training & Development. Identifies and follows up on the training needs of adult volunteers, promotes the Association’s Adult Resources Policy and works with the Training Director and other Commissioners to strengthen leadership capacity.
  • Appointments & Recognition. Manages applications for warrants and supervises the issuing of warrants to District Commissioners, Group Leaders and Section Leaders, ensuring that adult volunteers are appropriately qualified and recognized for their roles.
